As two of our churches are ancient, we receive a steady trickle of enquiries about our registers from people tracing their family tree.
Parish Churches in England are now required to deposit all registers, except those in current use, at the appropriate diocesan Record Office, so that they can be preserved in proper conditions of controlled temperature and humidity. This means that we cannot respond to any requests for information because we do not have the registers in our possession.
However, the Records Office (which is generally the local County Records Office) is fully staffed by qualified archivists, who are able to respond to your requests for information.
Anyone who would like searches made in the registers of any of our parishes is asked in the first instance to apply to the address given below. Where the register has not yet been deposited, you will be referred back to us.
Fees may be payable for searches and for certified copies of any information extracted from the registers.
